Hayabusa re-entry spectacular fireball.

Posted by 3citynewswire on 06/13/2010

Five years after touching down on a distant asteroid, Japan’s Hayabusa space probe returned to Earth on Sunday, landing in the Australian Outback after a spectacular fireball. Recorded from NASA DC-8 over Australia

Officials at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) aren’t sure whether the probe managed to collect samples from asteroid Itokawa after its three-month rendezvous with the small space rock in 2005. They would be the first samples returned from the surface of an asteroid.

The probe burned up on reentry, streaking through the night sky (see video here), and Hayabusa’s heat-resistant container landed with the aid of a parachute in South Australia’s Woomera Prohibited Range.

French fishing vessel expected to rescue stranded sailor

Posted by 3citynewswire on 06/11/2010

Rescue teams are heading Friday to a remote area in the Indian Ocean to fetch a stranded 16-year old California sailor girl who lost contact as she tried to circumnavigate the globe in her yacht.

Abby Sunderland, who is trying to be the world’s youngest to sail around the world, had lost satellite contact on Thursday and issued a distress call after what appeared to be a rogue wave hit the boat damaging its communications equipment.

“We are absolutely over the moon. We are very, very happy and excited that the Australian search and rescue jumped on this right away, got a plane after her, said Laurence Sunderland, Abby’s father.

Australian rescue officials said a Qantas Airbus A330 spotted “Wild Eyes,” her yacht, and was able to make radio contact with her. A French fishing vessel was diverted to her location and expected to arrive in the next 24 hours, the family said.

Abby’s mother, Marianna Sunderland, said rescue coordinators in Australia told the family that Abby is “fine” and that the boat is upright.

“She has food, water and she is running her heater, keeping warm. So she seems to be in good spirits and that’s about all we really know for sure,” she said.

Asteroid probe due to land Sunday in South Australia.

Hayabusa — the Japanese probe launched seven years ago to try to capture the first samples from an asteroid — is on its way home and is due to land Sunday in South Australia.

Touchdown for the craft’s capsule is set for 10 a.m. ET Sunday  in a remote part of the Australian outback. The final trajectory correction took place Tuesday. So it’s not at all clear if the returning capsule will contain any asteroid dust in its collection canister. Scientists say the dust could help them gain new understanding of how the solar system formed.

“This is the second highest velocity re-entry of a capsule in history,” said Peter Jenniskens, a scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Centre. “Such man-made objects entering with interplanetary speed do not happen every day, and we hope to get a ringside seat to this one.”

The 40-centimetre-wide containment capsule will separate from the main spacecraft well above the Earth’s atmosphere. It will eventually deploy a parachute to help slow its landing. The capsule also has a radio beacon.

BP buys Google, Yahoo search words to keep people away from real news on Gulf oil spill disaster

Posted by 3citynewswire on 06/08/2010

In their most tenacious effort to control the ‘spin’ on the worst oil spill disaster in the history, BP has purchased top internet search engine words so they can re-direct people away from real news on the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe.

BP spokesman Toby Odone confirmed to ABC News that the oil giant had in fact bought internet search terms. So now when someone searches the words ‘oil spill’,  on the internet, the top link will re-direct  them to BP’s official company website.

This would not be the first time that BP has tried to control information to protect the company’s public image.

Shortly after the Deepwater Horizon exploded on April 20, 2010, BP executives quickly underestimated the size of the disastrous oil spill. Some suggest they did it to avoid costly EPA per-gallon spill fines. The less oil spilled, the lower the fines.

A month into the spill, the public learned through independent science, that the spill was in fact a million gallon a day gusher. BP got caught in their own lie when the used a syphon pipe in one of the broken riser pipes and proudly proclaimed that they were capturing 5,000 barrels of oil a day. With the oil obviously still gushing, they had to up their spill rate to explain the reported discrepancy in their earlier estimates.

As the dead bodies of birds, turtles and dolphins began showing up on land, BP used a private security company as their ‘oil spill police’  to try to keep photographers and reporters away from the true death toll from their spill. Tides of black goo lapping a shore lined in corpses did not portray the company image Tony Hayward and his oil rich executives wanted.

BP can spend millions on advertising campaigns, and they can try to misdirect people on the internet. But no matter how hard BP tries or how much money they spend on public relations, they will never be able to hide the apocalypse unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico. You just can’t buy or smile your way out of a multi-billion gallon oil spill disaster.

The world is watching the Gulf of Mexico from airplanes, boats and satellite images. Sending people to the BP company website when they click on the words ‘oil spill’ is not going to erase the horrors of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, nor will the trickery of British Petroleum.

The main stream media is useless, They seem to have to get the facts from BP or some talking head from the government who only talks about red tape and permits. As is usually the case when it comes to a complex issues, the MSM has spent a lot of time finger-pointing without much of an idea what they’re pointing at. It’s just a big mess out of control and our leaders are “Useless” whether you voted for a Republican or a Democrat just about every damn one of them has crawled under a rock, I mean really take a look… “Where in the hell did they all go?” Where are they?

Joran van der Sloot transferred before reporters.

Posted by 3citynewswire on 06/06/2010

Joran van der Sloot, the young man suspected of murdering Stephany Flores (21) whose remains were found May 30 in a hotel room he had rented, was transferred this afternoon to the headquarters of the Public Ministry to appear before Prosecutor Espinoza Sotomayor, of the Criminal Prosecution Unit in Lima.

The Police Homicide Division moved him, surrounded by tight security, to the headquarters of the Prosecutor in Abancay Avenue in Lima. As suspected earlier in the day, the police asked to extend the period of detention for their investigation in order for the prosecution to continue interrogation to determine the innocents or guilt of Van der Sloot.

The preliminary detention of the alleged murderer of Stephany Flores had expired 24 hours after his expulsion from Chile. The presiding judge ordered his detention extended by seven days in response to the request made by the Prosecutor Espinoza Sotomayor.

According to Peruvian Canal N, Espinoza Sotomayor says that the case is still developing and more time is needed to continue investigating and questioning the chief suspect in the murder of Stephany Flores.

This new extention to detention occurs as the preliminary detention expired 24 hours after Joran van der Sloot was expelled from Chile. The Dutch citizen was moved this afternoon from the headquarters of the Dirincri to the Public Ministry and then returned to the police station where he remains to date. As of this evening, Joran Van der Sloot again remains within Dirincri headquarters in Lima.

Pigeon Held in India on Suspicion of Spying for Pakistan

Posted by 3citynewswire on 05/31/2010

Indian police are holding a pigeon under armed guard after it was caught on an alleged spy mission for neighboring Pakistan, media reported Friday.

The white-colored bird was found by a local resident in India’s Punjab state, which borders Pakistan, and taken to a police station 25 miles from the city of Amritsar.

The pigeon had a ring around its foot and a Pakistani phone number and address stamped on its body in red ink.

Police officer Ramdas Jagjit Singh Chahal told the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency that they suspected the pigeon landed on Indian soil from Pakistan with a message, although no trace of a note was found.

Officials directed that no one should be allowed to visit the pigeon, which police said was possibly on a “special mission of spying.”

The bird was medically examined and kept in an air-conditioned room under police guard.

Senior officers asked to be kept updated on the situation three times a day, PTI reported.

Chahal said local pigeon keepers in the sensitive border area told police that Pakistani pigeons were easily identifiable as they looked different from Indian ones, according to the Indian Express newspaper.
